At least a thousand homes in the former Payatas landfill in Quezon City will be among the recipients of an energy-saving project that uses plastic soda bottles as daytime light source inside homes. Isang Litrong Liwanag (One Liter of Light) is an advocacy by Illac Diaz, the philanthropist who heads the non-government organization My Shelter Foundation. The campaign is to turn plastic soda bottles into nifty lightbulbs in small homes, which absorbs sunlight and spread it out inside a house.

  • A variation on the Deck Prism. Might be a problem in the rainy season, didn't see any of those properly sealed to the roof decking. Eventually the chlorine and sun will make the bottles brittle, the weight of the water may then cause them to crack and fall down.

  • It is very TRUE that in the Philippines and like Mexico, people are so poor: i ve been to both countries and have photos of poor housing conditons. I am so lucky to be born in U.S.A. I am so happy that a caring man and his sons go out to RESCUE the poor. However, he may be hated by the rich who would be LOSING money from their expectations. Let us pray for that good man and his sons thru their journies! Amen in Christ!
